Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has donated his portrait of Florentine Filippo Strozzi, which featured in his exhibition ‘Ai Weiwei.Libero’ at Palazzo Strozzi this fall, to the Strozzi Foundation. His portrait of Filippo Strozzi, head of one of the most powerful Florentine families during the Renaissance, is part of his series of portraits of political dissidents and is “the first time the artist has chosen as subject a historical figure who was persecuted for his ideas.”
