The Franco Zeffirelli International Center for the Performing Arts opened on Monday in the 17th century San Firenze Complex in downtown Florence. The Center will “bring together and make available to his city and the world the entire artistic and cultural patrimony of his almost 70-year career.” The Center will feature exhibitions, education and training activities and concert and cinema studies facilities.
It aspires to serve as a bridge with the historical-artistic tradition of the city of Florence, which gave birth to the melodramma during the Renaissance, inspired by ancient Greek drammaturgy, of which Zeffirelli is recognized as one of the main contemporary interpreters and innovators.
